ACONCAGUA (22,838FT)

Aconcagua is not just the highest peak in Argentina, but also the tallest mountain in the western and southern hemisphere which of course means that it is one of the Seven Summits.  Though not difficult from a technical perspective (as there is no extremely steep or glaciated terrain on the normal route), Aconcagua's ruggedness and fierce weather make it an endurance challenge of a special kind.  This is an extremely demanding trip yet suitable for first-time mountaineers as long as they possess a penchant for cold weather and suffering.

Chamonix to Zermatt: the Walker's Haute Route

Explore one of Europe's classic long distance trails, the Walker's Haute Route.  We will start our trek in the fabled mountain town of Chamonix, at the foot of the Mont Blanc Massif, and enjoy views of the French alps for our first couple of days on trail before crossing the border to Switzerland.  In Switzerland we will stay in a number of Swiss mountain huts and cross pass after pass before descending into the stunning Mattertal, the valley that leads us towards the Matterhorn.  During the final days of this challenging trek we will also cross the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the world, the 1620ft long Charles Kuonen Bridge above the town of Randa.

Kilimanjaro (19,341FT)

A free-standing dormant volcano on the border of Tanzania and Kenya,  Kilimanjaro is the roof of Africa and one of the Seven Summits.  Climbing Kilimanjaro is a spectacular experience as the seven-day trek covers five different vegetation zones from the lush plains of Africa to the volcano's glaciated peak. This is a demanding trip yet suitable for first-time trekkers as long as they possess a penchant for cold weather and suffering.  We will climb via the Machame route, which is often considered the most scenic approach to Kilimanjaro's summit crater.
